The Vision: Unification
MTN’s digital ecosystem was fragmented across multiple standalone apps (Telco, Ayoba, Music, etc.). The “MTN One” project was launched with a singular, ambitious goal: to merge these disparate experiences into one cohesive, powerful Superapp.
Strategic Contribution
I have been involved in this project from Day 0, working within cross-functional teams to define the architectural and visual direction of the merge.
- Conceptual Leadership: My initial conceptual designs for merging the Telco and Lifestyle/Chat verticals served as the blueprint for the final product direction.
- Paragon System Evolution: We utilised MTN’s “Paragon” design system to engineer a specific, high-performance UI library for MTN One. I helped define strong, consistent visual styles that could scale across diverse verticals without losing identity.
Vertical Ownership
As a Senior Product Designer, I took ownership of several critical verticals within the app:
- Entertainment Hub: Designed the end-to-end experience for the Watch, Listen, and Read verticals.
- Core Experience: Led the design for Chat, the Home Feed, Login, and Onboarding flows.
- Outcome: A unified interface that seamlessly bridges the gap between utility (data/airtime) and lifestyle (content/social), currently rolling out to millions of users.
