The Vision
“Braai League” was born from a passion to connect the South African braai community. The goal was to build a niche social platform where users could share recipes, rate fires, and compete in leagues—running seamlessly across iOS, Android, and the Web.
Total Product Ownership
Unlike agency work where roles are siloed, this project required me to wear every hat:
- Product Manager: Defined the MVP feature set, roadmap, and monetization strategy.
- Lead Designer: Created the entire brand identity, design system, and high-fidelity prototypes.
- Lead Developer: Built the application from scratch using React for mobile and the web app.
Technical Execution
- Cross-Platform Parity: Leveraged React Native to deploy to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store with a single codebase, while maintaining platform-specific UI nuances.
- Web Ecosystem: Developed a companion React web application (braaileague.co.za) to serve as a marketing funnel and desktop access point.
- Full Stack Logic: Handled the end-to-end integration of user authentication, real-time social feeds, and media uploads.
Outcome
A fully functional, live product that stands as a testament to my ability to execute a vision from “Napkin Sketch” to “App Store Download” independently.
